Teesside University
University of Teesside is one of Europe's leading universities for animation and game design. These Animation and Games courses are housed within the School of Computing where artists and technicians work in a shared environment to produce a unique melting pot of skills.
The School of Computing has an Excellent rating for teaching quality awarded by HEFCE, the Higher Education Funding Council for England. It is also a centre of excellence in games and animation, computing, web and multimedia. The school has also been awarded four UK National Teaching Fellowships in the last few years - an outstanding achievement.
The School of Computing has a long and successful track record, operating its first undergraduate computer science programme in 1966. Now the School is a leading provider of innovative and exciting higher education courses in the UK. These courses range from ‘bite sized’ professional development programmes to cutting edge PhD and postdoctoral work. The School has about a hundred academic staff supporting courses which range from the highly creative (e.g. BA Computer Animation) to the very technical (e.g. BSc Computer Games Programming). Courses are supported by over thirty laboratories offering specialist equipment for all types of study with industry standard packages and environments such as Softimage|XSI, Alias Maya, 3D Studio Max and Toon Boom USAnimation. The School of Computing is home to one of the largest academic centres of animation in Europe. Animation courses at the school have developed from research in computer graphics in the early 1980’s. Now we have specific routes focussed on computer animation, character animation, post-production and technical direction.
ANIMEX
Every year, the school hosts Animex, a major international animation and computer games festival. Animex is run on the University Campus by school staff and since its inception has hosted presentations by companies like Pixar Animation Studios, WETA Digital, Industrial Light + Magic, Dreamworks, Aardman Animations, Framestore CFC and many others. Visitors have included Nancy Cartwright, Ray Harryhausen, Michael Dudok De Wit, Bob Godfrey and Paul Dreissen. The event hosts a major animation screening programme, professional workshops and events that give students an opportunity to meet some of the key players in the animation world.
The School of Computing recognises NOROFF as a high quality institution with professional and enthusiastic staff and we are delighted to allow students graduating from NOROFF to enter the final year of a Bachelor’s course in Animation or the second year of a Computer Games course.
“Accepting students directly onto the final year of our degrees in animation and creative digital media is very unusual. We can only consider students who have had the best kind of preparation. Our acceptance of WebStudent graduates reflects the outstanding quality their animation programmes.”
